UK Broadband Packages from EFHBroadband - Super Fast UK Broadband & ADSL services / Efhbroadband Uk Broadband of Bad Credit Services
EFHBroadband is the best broadband providers in the UK. Super Fast UK Broadband ADSL services. Great value super fast broadband packages. The LOWEST PRICE broadband in UK.
I won t go into all the detail here of the BT pricing model (if you are interested, its publically available here), but basically, this type of usage is unsustainable with the wholesale ADSL services available from BT (and in fact from LLU providers too). So, isps are left with a choice of how to do this. Possibilities include: bad credit credit creditres
1. Traffic shape to reduce priority for p2p and news services when capacity is tight - perfectly possible but it seems to upset lots of people (although the majority who *still* dont use p2p are blissfully unaffected). Lots of ISPs are doing this now. bad consolidation credit debt
2. Charge people for what they use. Heavy users would get a major shock if this was done - an 8Mbps line maxed out for a month (slightly unrealistic, but its for illustration) would cost over a thousand pounds per month on the percentage of BT Central capacity used alone. Not really practical. bad company credit repair
3. Increase average prices across the customer base to cover central capacity and retain some profit. This has its attractions (and is what many pricing models used to be based on). The big drawback now though is that the gulf between the heaviest and lightest users is now huge - a very heavy user can use hundreds of times more capacity over the month than a lighter user. So, if this model was adopted, average prices would increase massively - at least 3 times current prices. This would put off lots of people and in a very competitive market would be commercial madness. bad card credit credit
4. Have a vague fair usage policy where traffic is shaped but no fixed usage limits apply. People hate this as a concept but in many ways it is the most equitable and sensible way of traffic shaping if it means something like all of our network capacity will be available all of the time, but when we are congested low priority traffic will be squeezed - great because all the capacity is being made available to everyone, but a PR nightmare because there can never be a straight answer to how much can I download in a month . At least one ISP has been in a lot of of bother over this - mainly on their forums and other forums like www.adslguide.org. bad car credit loan
5. Introduce firm caps and bill for anything over the cap. This is what EFHBroadband is now doing and it works well. The major drawback though is that it can put of potential new customers who dont like the idea of a cap even though they will in the majority of cases be nowehere near it. bad credit loan mortgage
One of the interesting (and frustrating) things about this is that many providers with a FUP (fair usage policy) are still claiming to be unlimited (and, in a sense they are, but it takes a bit of a leap of imagination) when in fact they have a fairly stringent cap... Well, what the problem with this One problem from our point of view is comparison web sites. We are listed on www.uswitch.com with our caps, but when people enter their requirements, they almost always choose unlimited (why would you not ). So, when uswitch suggests a supplier, we very often aren t listed because others have supposedly uncapped packages cheaper than ours. This is despite the fact that our packages may have higher caps than the supposedly uncapped and be at better prices. This was highlighted lately in a story by The Register - The free fairy story . Bit of a pain, eh And it probably explains why many ISPs still claim unlimited. auto bad credit loan
Another interesting thing about the whole p2p and throttling issue is that when ISPs do have to restrict usage, their customers understandably get very upset - the standard comment is often along the lines of I am paying for 2Mbps and that is what I demand - 24x7 . What people almost always forget is that they are paying for an up to 2Mbps service contended (usually at 50:1). So they are actually paying for 1/50th of 2Mbps at the minimum. Obviously this wouldn t be a saleable speed, but what ISPs are doing is contending p2p and nntp (newsgroup) services, usually to nowhere near 1/50th of the headline speed, and allowing other protocols to run along at near-uncontended levels. You can argue that in such a competitive market, ISPs have been to keen to emphasise the headline speeds without the contention and you d probably be right, but that s a topic for another blog! bad credit mortgage refinance
As mentioned, this is a difficult issue, and I could type about it for hours, but it s late so I wont just now! There are lots of issues for another time (like - what will happen now that more and more legitimate uses of p2p are being developed - e.g. BBC trials). Should ISPs pay to distribute the BBC s content Should the end-user pay Should the BBC pay Is broadband the most sensible way to distribute high bandwidth services Will there be a new digital divide with those in LLU areas having access to content much faster When the 1.5m LLU lines threshold is reached, will BT reduce BT Central costs and increase speeds Will England win the World Cup bad credit refinance

It will be interesting to see the effect it has on traffic and conversion rates etc.... View Article Usage Stats - drawing closer ;-) by EFHBroadband Blog on Tue 13 Jun 2006 22:58 BST The Usage Stats portal is finally nearly done... we have hit lots of unxpected issues in developing it, including having to deal with very very large numbers. For those who are interested, the data is taken from the NAS (network access server) periodically and this is passed to a radius server (radius is used to both authenticate users and periodically track the inbound and outbound bytes). Radius then passes these figures to a SQL server which logs the data over time. There are some clever queries in there to calculate usage over different time periods with reasonable resolution (accuracy over time). bad credit loan student
It is working in-house now, and we will soon make it available publically again. Because we have now started using SQL rather than text logging, the data is only available from the evening of 12/06. There are still a few more hurdles to overcome such as dealing with the size of the database tables etc, but we will monitor things and make changes as necessary. We will probably only keep a couple of months of historical usage data. bad card credit
Thanks for the patience with this - we are very close now. View Article P2P copyright notices by EFHBroadband Blog on Tue 13 Jun 2006 22:50 BST Over the last few days we have been receiving lots of copyright infringement notices from copyright holders. They have identified IP addresses on our network and then contact us as we are the admin contact for the IPs. The notices ask us to ask our customers to stop the copright violation. This has come up in conversation with a few ISPs and they have mentioned how they deal with them. When I said we havent received any, the universal answer was you will - and now, all of a sudden, we have. Maybe IP blocks are scanned as they are found. Anyway, we have been passing the notices on to the customers involved and asking them to remove the offending material, and most have been very co-operative. It raises the whole issue of p2p and the rights and wrongs of sharing copyright material. So, it seems that the studios are watching and the best course of action is not to download or upload this material. We wont pass on customers details unless legally required to do so, but it is against ours (and most) ISPs T Cs to distribute copyright material without the owners consent. bad credit financing
